How it all started
The Council consists of independent directors from their respective schools, groups, or associations, each with their own celebrated journey and history.
Our strength is our diversity and open-mindedness; everyone retains their identity, regardless of lineage; you have a place and, more importantly, a voice!
Our Timeline
2011
The International Taekwondo Council was founded by Mr John McNally.
2012
The first ITC Instructors Course was conducted, held in the midland by Master John McNally.
2014
The first umpire and referees’ course took place.
2015
The inaugural ITC Competition took place in Birmingham.
2016
We achieved a milestone by reaching 1,000 members.
2017
The first Open Blackbelt Grading was conducted for the first time, with Masters from multiple associations coming together to assist independent schools.
2018
The International Taekwondo Council was officially registered with the UK Government HMRC as a National Governing Body, emphasizing our commitment to being a true council. We prefer the term Guiding over Governing.
Additionally, the First Southern Open Competition was successfully held in Swindon.
2020
The Tae Kwon Do Council UK was officially registered to enhance our outreach in the UK.
The first Council Meeting of the newly formed TCUK (The Tae Kwon Do Council UK) took place, initiating discussions that led to significant developments:
Became vetters for DBS
Started working with NSPCC to uphold safeguarding
During this period, an Events Co-Ordinator joined the council to initiate the development of events and our brand.
2021
During this period, the TCUK Squad was formed, with Master Roger Lawrence and Master Clive Harrison becoming squad coaches.
Notably, Master Harrison, the Central Representative, achieved the esteemed title of Grandmaster.
2022
Our membership numbers continued to grow, necessitating the appointment of a Licensing Officer for the first time.
In a remarkable achievement, we organised five competitions in the same year, including the Inaugural Welsh Open and Points Sparring Championship.
2023
The Council/Committee underwent expansion and evolution, with Leanne Lolley assuming the role of Vice-Chair.
Additionally, we successfully hosted the First ITC/TCUK Scottish Open.
